Equal vs. custom split
Equal split divides the total (and the tip) the same way across everyone, which is fine when orders were roughly similar. Custom split lets each person enter what their own items cost, and the tip is then distributed proportionally, so someone who ordered a $40 steak pays more of the tip than someone who ordered a $12 salad, rather than splitting the tip evenly on top of already-uneven shares.
